Space/Water Heating

Greenhouse and Propane Overview

While propane fueled heaters have their place in the home, farmers can benefit from the energy savings by using space heaters and tankless water heaters in their workshops and barns.

Tankless water heaters can be up to 30 percent more energy efficient than conventional tank water heaters.

Project 1:Propane Tankless Water Heater on a Dairy Operation

An efficient supply of hot water is necessary for a diary operation. With PERC support, a project is testing and demonstrating propane-fueled tankless water heaters in a banked configuration at a commercial diary farm.

Project 2:Improving Efficiency of Swine Building Heating System

PERC is partnering with heater manufacturer, L.B. White, to develop a more efficient propane-fueled heating system for swine confinement buildings. The research project will verify the cost savings that pork producers can achieve by using variable-rate technologies and electronic controls. PERC funding is allowing L.B. White to accelerate the demonstration of improved fuel savings, and allows the company to test for improvement in animal productivity and health with dedicated trials
