Weed Control

PERC has supported the development and commercialization of propane-fueled four-row weed flamers that incorporates newly designed hooded torches to improve safety, energy efficiency, and ease of use. Research began by determining the effective dose needed for effective weed control, mitigating crop damage, and studying the effects on crop yields.

The Batchen Stinger is a steam weed control machine originally developed in Australia by D.J. Batchen Inc. With PERC support, the Stinger was brought to the United States and redesigned to be more robust and treat two rows simultaneously. PERC has also supported extensive field testing of both the original unit and the redesigned unit.
